It's an art not a science

Master of Paradox - oh yeah!!

There are loads of Project Management websites and blogs on the internet, some are useful, some amusing and some just plain strange.

I browse through a few every so often, looking for tips and ideas that I can steal and use as my own. Reading this today http://www.pmhut.com/the-ideal-project-manager-specification I realised that professional qualifications aside the key to my progression as a PM is to become a Master of Paradox. This sounds like a lot more fun than reviewing the latest PRINCE2 documentation.

The requirements to be a Master of Paradox are split into two: hard skills and soft skills. I'm quite handy in a fight and mum has always said I'm a big softy, so I figure I'm reasonably well qualified.

What is missing from the Master of Paradox skills list in my mind is the ability to be able to quickly context switch. It's a rare luxury to only work on one project at a time, being able to change gears and deal with different technologies, people, customers at the drop of the hat is (I think) key to being a good PM.

Sorry, got to go - need to work on something else - a context switch, geddit?
